Visual Identity

This is my idea for my own company. The company would sell custom computer parts like cases, ssds and things like that. The logo is is a hammer hitting the name (bit strike) The name is like a weird play on words. A bit is the smallest form of computer data and its being struck like in metal forging. The idea behind this is we are forging a new path in to the future. With the business cards are envelop I used straight diagonal lines to communicate the speed of which or company is moving forward. Im really satisfied with the way the logo and card came out I believe those are the 2 best pieces in the set.

Movie trailer mash up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUXWAEX2jlg

The movie I will be mashing up is Fight Club. I plan on changing it in to a romantic comedy about a couple who just has to make it work. I will be doing this by changing the clips used in the trailer with clips from the movie. I will also change how its been cut to make it appear much slower paced. Finally I will use new music seal in the feel of a romantic comedy.

These are my two infographics I created. I collected the data for these by creating a survey and posting it online to /r/AMD and /r/PCmasterrace

Basquiat- "What are they really doing with all that data"

The term I chose to work on was layers. I chose to take this term very literally as I used layers in PhotoShop to create this piece. I thought the best way to show layers would be by actually layering pictures and imagine on top of each other to create on singular piece. The issue I chose to express through this piece was mass data collection. The idea of this piece was more to poke fun at the idea of mass data collection and what they do with it. My idea came from watching an old cartoon. In the cartoon Scrooge McDuck dives in to a pool filled with his money so that got me think what if that what all these agencies but instead of money it was users data. To show data I used old floppy disks as they are probably one of the most well know holders of data. I borrowed one of my friends and got him to pose as if he was driving in to a pool. Once i had taken the shot I cut him out and layered the floppy disks under him to make it appear as if he was diving in to them. For a final visual I found an image of green zero's and one's which is what data looks like to a computer. I then placed that over the top of the imagine and used a layer tool to give it a fade effect. Once that was done my final step was to find the MS DOS font and use it to write "you really think it just started now" on the screen. This related back to the floppy disks as people seem to think that mass data collection has only started in recent years when it has actually been present since the beginning of computers. Over all I was mildly satisfied with this work. For most of the project I had a very hard time coming up with and idea of what to do. After a long time spent not really doing anything I figured out what I wanted to do and I think it turned out quite well. If I was able to figure out what I wanted to do much sooner I think it would have went much better and a lot quicker.

Logos (WIP)

sun microsystems logo

This is the Sun Microsystems logo. This logo has been a staple in the computer world for years. This logo is simple and very memorable. The interesting thing about this logo is that no matter what way you look at it the logo will always spell the word "sun" which is the name of the company. This logo is visually interesting yet simplistic. The use of line in this logo is what makes it so interesting. It uses a lot of straight and curved lines. The simplistic part of the logo is the fact that its just the same thing used over and over again but rotated in different ways. This is what allows it to read "sun" what ever way you look at it.

Tech Culminating Self Portrait

In my video self portrait I used a canon D3100 to film, iMovie to edit the clips and garageband to cut the audio. In the video my shots are shaky and unstable because I was trying to create the idea of it being someone seeing me and walking behind me. I also tried to create the idea of unease. Sometimes I feel unsure about things in live and i wanted to show that without coming out and saying it. I have shots where they blur in and out to give a greater sense of unease and how I feel that I don't always see thing clearly. My main goal with this video was not to show whats on the outside but whats on the inside. I use a shot where you see graffiti from a subway window. This shot shows two things the art style I love and my love of traveling. When im traveling I feel at peace with the world ive felt like this since I can remember. I created this feeling by having that was a shot that was steady. I also tried to create the idea of enlightenment when coming out of the station and seeing the graffiti. I did this because when i discovered graffiti it gave me a new way to show feelings and emotions in art work. Up until that point there wasnt really an art style I enjoyed so once I found graffiti and all its styles i was able to find an art style where i could express my self. My video ends on a shot of my self skateboarding in to the darkness of the street. I did this because I love being in the darkness I find it relaxing and fun. I tried to show that by combining my favorite sport with darkness and it went well. The fade in to darkness also showed how east it can be to hide away in the shadows of the night. I chose to use the song Whole Worlds Going Insane by The Insane I chose the song for three reasons. One the song progresses relatively fast and the lyrics say something. That leads me to my second reason, as the title suggests its about the whole world going insane and at these times to me it feels like this is true and the whole world is going insane. Third and finally the genera of music it is, is punk. many people find music to be an escape from life and i do to. For me the most the most effective is punk music and thats why I included it as i felt it needed to be in there to really show me. I also show this in the jacket im wearing as it shows the logos of some of my favorite bands. After all the shooting and editing was finished I can say Im really happy with my work. I think it shows me and who i am and thats what i was trying to do in a creative and different way.

Kinetic Typography Assignment write up

The title of the work is ready to fall. It is a Kinetic typography of a small portion on lyrics from the song ready to fall by rise against. I created the piece using Adobe Flash.

I used “Gill Sans Ultra Bold” as my font as I font it fit the sound and mood of the songs. I used fast changes and quick movements because the song has a fast tempo. I also used fast transitions between scenes.

I chose these design aspects as I found they fitted the song best. I had tried slow transitions but this made it hard to keep up with the fast paced song. All of my design choices were made around the fact that the song as such a fast pace and loud sound.

I really liked the text that seemed to come out of the screen. I found this to really draw my attention and I saw it as an interesting movement of the text.  I also really liked the song itself, I found it leant itself well to be used for this project. The fast paced music allowed me to do the fast movements I wanted to do.

Some of the main challenges I ran in to was the limited range of motion I had using Flash. The program didn’t let me do some of the things I wanted to do this made me have to chance my design from my original.  Finding motions that I could do that would fit the song and wouldn’t get redundant was hard. If I were to do this again I would take the time to learn Adobe after affects, as it would have given me a greater range of motions I could do.

Some of the things I was most satisfied with were the text that seemed to come out of the screen. Creating this made me feel pretty happy as I have always liked this effect with text.

Photography

Afte the OCAD trip we had time to take some pictures downtown. I also took some pictures once I got home from OCAD to get some shots with more nature.

OCAD University after the trip

While in OCAD one if the first places I ended up was the sculpture area and I noticed one piece that really caught my eye.
This caught my eye for one main reason it's very scifi. If anyone as played half life or Garry's mod you like me may notice how this kind of looks like a head crab container. Beside the fact that it brought back some great memories I really liked the colours used in the piece it feels so really. This gave me a new found interest in sculpture and I would love to explore more sculptures that have this raw and scifi feeling to it.

I really liked this work for to reasons the style and the imagery used. I think it shows how our smart phones are becoming extensions of our minds. I looked at all of Alexandro Cameron's work he had on display that day and it was all amazing I found this one to be my favourite. I don't know what it is with this piece but I just really enjoy it. I'm not sure if it's the imagery or the colours or even the organic cube like structures.

After visiting OCAD I think it's a great place to study but i don't think it would be for me as I don't really see my self going in to a career in the field of art and design. While I do enjoy art and design I am just more passionate about other career fields.

OCAD University Trip

Last week I went to OCAD university to visit and look at all the great art work for the students there. I was looking forward to seeing the art work from the industrial design, environmental design, and graphic design.

Industrial design- focuses on innovative and responsive solutions for humankind’s interface with the world. I found this to be something I would like to check out as it some of the work was with furniture which I think will be really cool to see how the students make new and interesting designs.

Environmental design-  focuses on the design of expressive and humane interior and architectural space. I think this would be interesting to see as I really enjoy architecture and how buildings interact with the environment around them

Graphic design- I think at this point we all know what this is :p I was look forward to see this because as a student in a program which used graphic design I wanted to see how people who have been studying it for a while do it.

VectorDrawing of an apple

I decided to save my vector drawing of an apple as a .png as I found it worked best for the colours and gradients i used to create it.

To create the drawing I used the pen tool. I tried to use as little anchors as possible. I did this by trying to make anchors stretch around the curves as best as possible. After pen tooling around all the parts I added the colours that i thought best matched the original apple.

While doing this I only came across one or two problems and that was mainly just with the colour. I found the colours were hard to get the colour I wanted and the gradient tool didnt work how i would have liked it to have worked in the program but there isnt really much I could do about that.

Over all im pretty happy about the large apple. I found this one turned out quite well and it look quite nice. The half apple im not so happy with, i feel i could have done so much better on the half apple. Mostly with the pen tooling and the colours in the center. In the future ill know what not to do when making a vector drawing.

Exploration

This weekend I went exploring the old Redmond high school. I took many pictures but this one is my favourite because it really captures the feel of the old school. The broken windows, the debris filled hallways and the changing lighting. The hallways went from light to pure darkness in a matter of steps. It will be sad to see this building get demolished just for more condos to be built in its place.

PixelDrawing

gif

png
This week i made a pixel portrait of my self in photoshop. Once finished i saved it in .gif and .png formats. After spending some looking at the pictures i found that the differences aren't that noticeable. The colours in the .gif seem more vibrant. While making this i was trying to accentuate my hair, i was trying this because i liked how my hair looked the day i took the picture. I got the colours by using the dropper tool to get the colours of off the original image.

I created this image by using the pen tool and setting it to 1 pixel in size. I created a new layer to draw on and drew over the original image. I would like to do this again but use a picture with better lighting. The lighting in the picture made the colours look dark and grey. Im not particularly happy with this and given the time i would go back and redo it using a better picture.

Unity 3D

Hey today im going to talk about unity 3d. Unity 3d has been used to make ios games steam games and other cool games but thats not what im going to talk about im going to talk about the animation engine that it comes with. The animation engine is just amazing if you are looking to make a short film or just mess around this is what you should use. You can create running paths for characters to follow jumping points where they will jump. You can also have the camera follow the characters filming there moves. What you can do with this engine is just amazing there is so much to talk about i cant do it in a blog post i would recommend you watch some videos on youtube. But still its just amazing what you can do here is a link to where you can download. http://unity3d.com/

Wallpaper

I want to start by saying that this was two wallpapers combined I found this on /r/wallpapers. I realize that a lot of the pics I post come from reddit but thats because the people there really do make good things. I would recommend people check reddit out if you have not already the people post lots of great art and interesting things. Now on to the wallpaper it is really cool the person that created this used two wallpapers to create this the person placed one wallpaper over the other wallpaper to create this great piece of work. I found it really interesting because of the way the image under the first image is centered. The people in the wallpaper are splice between a dark line. Also they are placed using rule of thirds creating, this creates a more interesting image for people to look at. So in short reddit can be a great place to find great images and art works, this wallpaper is interesting to look at. It also shows how people make cool and interesting images   out of other image or other people art works.

Another /r/Pics

I was looking at pictures on /r/Pics and came across this and I started thinking of a sifi movie or video game. I would think this was created in Photoshop because as far as im aware there are no purple tree and bright light blue rivers on earth. Even if these things dont exist its still really cool it just looks great, the person that created this must have spent a lot of time making it. I really like the bright colours in the picture they really capture my imagination it makes me think of all the sifi films ive seen, it also makes me want to see more picture like this. In short this picture really captivates my imagination and I felt like sharing the picture with others.

Really cool looking landscape pic

I found this the picture when i was looking for a new background for my PC. At first look you can see the northern lights across which looks to be a mountain rang. I really fined the colours in this picture very interesting. When looking at the picture you first see the light and the foreground but when you look past the light you see the mountains in the background. I think this is just amazing as the amount of time the person must have taken to set up the shot to get this exact angle. In short this picture is really interesting to me and I find the colours very cool

Logo write up

  LOGO  ANALYSIS

My company is a video game development company. We stride to create the best games on the market. We bring sharp cutting edge graphics and movement engines to the world. My style is modern and very futuristic.

In my logo I used geometric objects like the circle and triangle. I used these shapes as the triangle use bold strong lines. Which shows that my company is stable but powerful. I also included the circle to show that the company is friendly and there for its customers. The colours I used was red and blue. Red is a very royal colour showing power and strength. The Blue is used to show unity and that the company is peaceful and powerful at the same time.

The mood and feeling i tried to create was a sense of friendship. I used the curvy line in the circle to show the harmony between the circle and the triangle. I also what to create the feeling of peace when you look at the logo. I find that the red complements the blue very well creating a felling of peaceful power.

The logo I found worked best was the combined logo. I think this because it shows the company name lets people know who we are. I would say it meets all the criteria its clear and legible. If I looked at it I would think its a computer or video game company. I also think I used the space very well leaving positive and negative space.
