Kinetic Typography Assignment write up

The title of the work is ready to fall. It is a Kinetic typography of a small portion on lyrics from the song ready to fall by rise against. I created the piece using Adobe Flash.

I used “Gill Sans Ultra Bold” as my font as I font it fit the sound and mood of the songs. I used fast changes and quick movements because the song has a fast tempo. I also used fast transitions between scenes.

I chose these design aspects as I found they fitted the song best. I had tried slow transitions but this made it hard to keep up with the fast paced song. All of my design choices were made around the fact that the song as such a fast pace and loud sound.

I really liked the text that seemed to come out of the screen. I found this to really draw my attention and I saw it as an interesting movement of the text.  I also really liked the song itself, I found it leant itself well to be used for this project. The fast paced music allowed me to do the fast movements I wanted to do.

Some of the main challenges I ran in to was the limited range of motion I had using Flash. The program didn’t let me do some of the things I wanted to do this made me have to chance my design from my original.  Finding motions that I could do that would fit the song and wouldn’t get redundant was hard. If I were to do this again I would take the time to learn Adobe after affects, as it would have given me a greater range of motions I could do.

Some of the things I was most satisfied with were the text that seemed to come out of the screen. Creating this made me feel pretty happy as I have always liked this effect with text.

Photography

Afte the OCAD trip we had time to take some pictures downtown. I also took some pictures once I got home from OCAD to get some shots with more nature.

OCAD University after the trip

While in OCAD one if the first places I ended up was the sculpture area and I noticed one piece that really caught my eye.
This caught my eye for one main reason it's very scifi. If anyone as played half life or Garry's mod you like me may notice how this kind of looks like a head crab container. Beside the fact that it brought back some great memories I really liked the colours used in the piece it feels so really. This gave me a new found interest in sculpture and I would love to explore more sculptures that have this raw and scifi feeling to it.

I really liked this work for to reasons the style and the imagery used. I think it shows how our smart phones are becoming extensions of our minds. I looked at all of Alexandro Cameron's work he had on display that day and it was all amazing I found this one to be my favourite. I don't know what it is with this piece but I just really enjoy it. I'm not sure if it's the imagery or the colours or even the organic cube like structures.

After visiting OCAD I think it's a great place to study but i don't think it would be for me as I don't really see my self going in to a career in the field of art and design. While I do enjoy art and design I am just more passionate about other career fields.

OCAD University Trip

Last week I went to OCAD university to visit and look at all the great art work for the students there. I was looking forward to seeing the art work from the industrial design, environmental design, and graphic design.

Industrial design- focuses on innovative and responsive solutions for humankind’s interface with the world. I found this to be something I would like to check out as it some of the work was with furniture which I think will be really cool to see how the students make new and interesting designs.

Environmental design-  focuses on the design of expressive and humane interior and architectural space. I think this would be interesting to see as I really enjoy architecture and how buildings interact with the environment around them

Graphic design- I think at this point we all know what this is :p I was look forward to see this because as a student in a program which used graphic design I wanted to see how people who have been studying it for a while do it.
