In school works

Barns, A.Y. Jackson

This painting is somewhat realistic. As I can tell it is a barn with the sun setting in the background on a winter day.

The painting feels warm because of the light use in the painting. The use of the brush is very soft. The texture looks soft because of the curves in the painting as the are on sharp edges to give it a rough look and feel. The painting feels calm and happy.

This painting feels warm and happy. I think the artist was trying to show that even old and broken things can look happy and make people feel happy and calm.

Formalism
The Emphasis in this painting is the barn, due to the use of the colours to the rest of the painting it is much darker and sad. The movement in the painting brings the eye to the barn. The artist does this by making all the curves and lines center at the barn, this makes the eye draw straight to the barn. A continuation of the start of this review is about the hue in the painting. The hue creates a warm happy feel in the cool desalt environment the artist painted. Contrast in the Art work is the barn as it i the only man made object in the art work. The contrast of the dark colours on the light background really brings the focus to the man made object. The curvy lines interact well with the straight lines on the page once again drawing the eye straight to the barn or the man made object
